Wallpaper- First Time

For a while, I’ve been looking to add something to this wall in my dining room. I ordered some wall fixtures to place on each size of the mirror but I didn’t like how they looked so I decided to go with wallpaper!

I have never used wallpaper in my home and after seeing some amazing pictures on Instagram, I was totally inspired. I originally saw this wallpaper on one of my favorite Instagram accounts, Nesting with Grace, and I just loved it so much, I searched around and found it on sale! Perfect timing right?

A few days ago, I did some research and watched some Youtube videos on how to install this self-adhesive wallpaper. It wasn’t as hard as we thought but we did hit a few bumps on the road. We struggled especially with the first piece as this house has some floor level issues and sinks towards the front of the house. So the wall was a bit difficult at the right hand side. We played around a bit with the wallpaper and realized that as we stuck it on, it wasn’t going straight down. What we did, was that we left extra wallpaper on the right side of the wall and trimmed it at the end. This allowed us to have an even wall.

It was very easy to smooth out the paper and let all the air bubbles out. My husband compared it to when he use to tint his car windows when he was younger and knew exactly how to do it. We also used a rag to wipe the paper down and allow the air to come out easier.

Aligning the image was a bit of a challenge on the first two strips but after that, it was a smoother ride. We left extra paper on the top and bottom then cut it off with the smoothing tool to make sure we cut it straight. It also protects your wall from getting cut. I highly recommend using the smoothing tool on this step.

Overall, it took us about an hour and a half to place it all on and we really enjoyed it. Once you get the hang of it, it’s simple. Now I want to add more wallpaper to other parts of the house. It’s such a fun way of adding texture and it changed the way the dining room feels. I can’t believe I waited this long to even try it!
