Organizing Kids Toys

There’s times when I walk in my house and it looks so messy filled with toys everywhere. Having kids you kind of expect toys everywhere but I had to stop and think of how I can find a way to organize it so they can have their toys easy to reach and have a clean house.

I have two boys and one girl and I like to keep their toys separate. So here’s what we did… each kid started out with one bin. After sorting out all the toys they no longer play with, we put them in a bag for donation. Then we started placing each kids toys in their own bin. There’s toys that are “common” toys and they all play with them,  so we separate all those toys in a separate bin.

This is what we started with….as you can see it’s just a big mess and the bins are just sliding around the cubes.

I got this organizing shelf a few years back from Ikea and it was in the boys room but after decluttering their room, I thought this spot was a perfect spot to keep all their toys organized. They spend most of their day in the living room either way. I had these bins that were a bit too small (11″ bins) for the cubes so I ordered (13″ bins) cubes to maximize the space. Here are some similar shelves and the bins I used…click on the picture to shop.

It looks much cleaner and inviting and these larger bins now hold double the toys.  I added some decor pieces and of course a plant! Now lets just hope the kids keep it organized!
