Creating a Cozy and Warm Home

As Christmas came to an end and I started putting all the decor away, I found myself a bit unhappy with how my house felt. The warmth of the twinkling light and every corner filled with Christmas decor really created this cozy feeling that I missed. As much as I was tired of the clutter and the overwhelming decor that comes with Christmas, I really just wanted to feel that warmth again.

I decided to find ways to make my home a bit cozier and I started and thinking about what makes me feel happy and what I wanted to see when I walked in the door. The best part is that I had most of these things at home, I just had to move thing around a bit to create that feeling I desired.

Plants have always been something I loved. For a long time, I would buy plants and some how kill them within the first few months but after a while, I learned how to take care for them. I went to my local Home Depot and found small plants to place around the house. I put them mostly in the bedrooms because I never had any plants there. Plants don’t just make a space feel warm and inviting but they also purify the air. I like to mix real with faux plants because I’m not that great at keeping larger plants alive. I wrote a post about all my faux plants HERE along with some tips on how I maintain my real plants.

Another way of making your home cozy and inviting is throw blankets. I’m so obsessed with blankets and so are my kids. They always lay on the sofa and throw a blankets over their legs. Even in the summer time when the AC is turned on. I fill up baskets around the house or drape them over the couch and it really makes the space more inviting. Even laying blankets at the foot of your bed makes the bedroom look cozy. I shared some of my favorite blankets HERE.

Lastly, my favorite way to create a warm and cozy space is by having throw pillows everywhere. As you can see in the pictures below, I love having lots of pillows around the house. I didn’t get any new ones but I did move them around and placed them so the space would look nicer with the throw blankets.

You can throw them on the sofa, accent chairs, ottomans and baskets. I love how throw pillows gives any furniture life. Imagine seeing my furniture below without the pillows and blankets. The room would probably look so plain and simple. Adding layers to your home is key!

If you guys remember this area during Christmas was so warm and filled with decor, it was hard seeing it so plain afterwards. I added these two plants and it really brightened up the space. I also swapped out the old plant that I had on top of the shelf for this one. It gives it more height and fills up the space better.

Adding this cute plant to my coffee table made it look so pretty. It’s small enough that it won’t get in the way and the kids won’t ruin it.

Draping blankets adds that extra layer and texture to the space.

I always try to have bright blankets because they always feel cozy and are a good contrast against the furniture.

Besides buying some plants, I didn’t spend any money. Just took out some blankets and repositioned some pillows I had and these little changes made an impact.

Let me know how you guys create a cozy and inviting feeling in your home in the comment section below.
