Boys Bedroom Refresh

A few weeks ago, I walked up the stairs and looked at the boys room and and thought… what is going on in here! When we moved into this house, I just didn’t really put much effort into the second floor. All the bedrooms just received very little attention from me. I focused on making the first floor presentable because that’s what our family and friends really saw.

Part of having a home is putting love and effort into every space and making it feel warm and cozy. If your home is inviting then you will want to stay in it. And let me tell you, my boys have never spent so much time in their room as they do now.

As I stood there and looked at their room, I decided I had to make it feel and look more inviting. I wanted to make it a boys room that could transition into their future years. They are 5 and 7 years old and although they are still young, they wanted their room to be modern and not so kid-ish.

Before:

Their room had just two beds and some character bedding they had picked out when we moved in. These super soft blankets are their favorite so I had to keep them in the space.

Everything was just cluttered and they had no space for anything on their dresser.

After:

Their beds are two different frames. The one by the wall is a bed we got when Juan was 2 years old. It’s a XL twin bed that has a pull out bed under it, so I didn’t want to get rid of it. If you remember, I actually pulled the lower bed out and added it to Isabellas room refresh HERE. The bed to the left is just a metal frame. Instead of spending extra money on bed frames, I decided to buy them matching headboards. These blue ones are such good quality and the boys love that they are soft and cushioned.

I wanted them to have simple bedding that wasn’t hard for them to make and I knew exactly what bedding I wanted. These are Beddy’s bedding. They are a sheet and comforter all in one and they have a Minky blanket incorporated into it. It’s just so easy to make with the zippers on each side and the boys love making their beds every morning. I definitely took advantage of their Black Friday sale. I added these super soft oversized throw pillows from Target and their favorite soft toy.

The lamp is one of my favorite pieces. They have two heads facing each bed, so if one needs the light they can use it without bothering the other. I recently read some great benefits about Himalayan salt lamps and added it to their room. I may write a blog post about it next month after doing some more research.

These two art pieces are just so fun! The Peace Sign and the Rock, Paper, Scissors prints are perfect for a kids room.

I wanted to have a space for them to display their own things, so I added these two wall shelves. I displayed some of their own art in the frames, added some accessories and their soccer trophies.

I cleaned out a lot of their old toys and stored them away or donated them since they really didn’t use them. That really made a big different on top of the dresser and cleared out the corner of their room.

They never had a hamper in their room and I love this one from Serena and Lily. I actually loved them so much I got one for every bedroom. They are also great decorative baskets for the living room or any other space.

Since it’s Christmas, I added the felt ball garland to their windows. This 6 foot tree from Walmart with the ornaments that I had from last years.

The boys are so happy now that they have their own “Big boy space” and enjoy hanging out in their room now.
