House Plants

There’s those people that have a green thumb and then there’s those that don’t. Well, I’m those that are kind of in between. For the last two years, I’ve loved having plants in my house but I tend to kill them. If I’m lucky they will live more than 8 months. Last year around this time of year, I killed most of my house plants. Now I’m not sure if it was the cooler weather or the fact that I’m not good at taking care of plants. In the winter, I decided to just buy some faux plants and trees since I couldn’t keep any alive so I invested in these large fiddle leaf fig trees. They are such a statement and they look so natural.

Once the spring and summer came I started seeing a lot of plants in stores and I gave it another chance. I purchased some smaller fiddle leaf fig plants and every time I see a small plant I like, I just buy it. There’s this science to keeping plants alive and here is what I learned:

  1. Don’t over water.
  2. Don’t under water.
  3. If the leaves start turning brown, trim the dead part or cut the leaf off.

Yup, thats all it takes.

I set a day of the week (Monday) and that’s when I take all my real plants and bring them to the sink. I run water and let them sit in the sink until they drain for 10 minutes. It’s been working for me very well. Now that the winter is coming, I may have to check that the soil is not too wet because some plants don’t like too much moisture and the roots may start rotting. Yup, that’s how I killed all my plants last year.

What I love mostly about plants is that they are such a great way to add life to your house. You can place them in any corner or any table and they just give the space such a great feel. I’ve been on the hunt for some plants for my bedroom and other spaced throughout the house. I will show you guys once I do.

Whether you have a green thumb or not, you can add greenery to your house with real or faux plants and you will still get the same effect. Just make sure your faux plants look as natural as possible.
