Curtain Top Style Hack

When I decided to put curtains back on the window over my living room wall, I knew I wanted them to be simple and white. The problem was that the curtains that I liked had a rod pocket and I’m not a fan of that style. It just doesn’t let the curtains drape in the way that I like, so I decided to do a curtain hack.

I got inspiration from my dinning room curtains and replicated the back tab on the new curtains. I wanted to share the steps that I took to create it on a blog post incase you ever wanted to refer back to it. Below I’m sharing how I measured and cut the tabs to create the look I wanted.

Here is what the curtains look like with the curtain rod pocket.

First, I measure the tabs on the curtain from my dining room and guided myself from there. I started out at one corner and measured 2″ to create the first tab. Then I measured a space of 5″ between each tab and repeated the process until I got to the other end of the curtain. Before cutting the last tab at the other end of the curtain, I had to leave a space of 4″ since there wasn’t enough space and I wanted all the tabs to be 2″.

See the picture below to get a visual.

Above is the first tab I created. I carefully cut from the bottom and worked my way up the fabric, stoping before the crease at the top. I didn’t want to go all the way up to the crease since the fabric is so thin (I was scarred the fabric would run). Be very careful when you cut, make sure you don’t cut the fabric on the other side.

Here is what they look like now.

You can see on my Story Highlights on Instagram a video I shared showing what I did.
