Marketplace Find- Parisian Faux Fireplace Mantle

About 3 weeks ago, I decided to go on a very serious hunt for a Parisian or Victorian style fireplace. The holidays are coming and a fireplace is one of the coziest spaces and such a fun space to decorate. I’ve been wanting one for three years and this year was THE year! I had to have it.

So the hunt began! I searched on FB Marketplace, craigslist and offer up every single day, a few times a day. I was obsessive. I woke up and searched and right before I went to bed, I searched. And all day long lol. I found a few options but they weren’t exactly what I wanted and some were a couple hours away. I found the dreamiest fireplace but it was made of a very fancy stone and was way over budget on FB. A week later, I went on Craigslist and saw this fireplace. I knew it would need some work because it had that ugly wood attached but I had to have it. Especially for the price.

It felt like I was going to enter a bidding war or something and I rushed to email the guy. He had just posted it two hours ago and I was afraid someone had already claimed it. So I scheduled the pick up and ended up rescheduling a few times as I was trying to get my friend to help me pick it up. A few hours before I was suppose to go pick it up, I gave my husband the dimensions and he told me I measured our truck wrong and it wasn’t going to fit. I was not giving up and I rushed and rented a uHaul van and within 20 minuted we were out the door. Getting this fireplace was a total mission.

We drove an hour and a half to Brooklyn in a storm and were able to pick it up. At this point we just wanted to get back home fast and we didn’t place the fireplace even on the van so it cracked on the way home.

I pulled down the shelves and gave my mom the side board I had to make space for it. I also painted the rest of the wall pink with leftover paint and I love having the entire wall pink. I used THIS to patch the cracks on the fireplace and it worked so well. I was very impressed with it. (It was very messy and went all over the floor) I let it dry and sand it down then painted it Ultra Pure White by Behr. I painted the wood part as well and removed the bottom piece you see in the image above and used it as a base to put under the mantle.

A cool fact about this fireplace was that it was used for a movie and the guy that had it before me bought it from an auction where they sell items from movies and tv shows. I wish I knew which one.

It was so fun decorating it for fall and I already have a vision in my head for Christmas! Let me know what you guys think in the comment below. I was a mission to get it here but so worth it!
